Mykonos is a romantic destination, a place for honeymoons and dates. Likewise, it attracts partygoers and weekend day trippers looking to let off steam. Don’t be surprised to find large crowds in Mykonos, especially in high season. But this is something that should not discourage you, because it is a goal that you can achieve from many angles. You can always find the quieter beaches and the charming towns that, despite the small size of Mykonos, are still off the beaten track.
With that in mind, let’s find out the best things to do in Mykonos so that you can plan your next trip to this amazing Greek island.
1. Mykonos Town
After arriving on one of the best Greek islands, head to the city of Mykonos. Exploring the narrow streets lined with whitewashed houses is one of the first things to do in Mykonos, Greece. Not only will it give you a good idea of what life on the Island of Mykonos has to offer, but you will also find yourself there.
The city of Mykonos, also known as Chora, is located on the west coast of the island and is the beating heart of Mykonos. Walking through the cobbled streets in the shape of a labyrinth, we fell in love with the vibrant but relaxed atmosphere that characterizes this emblematic city. The city of Mykonos is like a walk on a postcard, with its whitewashed buildings and churches with blue domes (just like the ones you see in Santorini) that contrast strikingly with the incredibly blue sky. We were really coming and going.
Navigating the road maze is a fun challenge and we enjoyed getting lost, making good purchases in the shops along Matogianni Street, which also happens to be one of the most beautiful streets on the island, and drinking Greek coffee in a cafe. It was like we were in our own movie scene. You may want to read: Is Greece expensive, a complete guide to travel expenses in Greece.
2. paradise beach
When your steps are over, it’s time to indulge in the beach life of the Island of Mykonos. For a relatively small island, Mykonos has no shortage of beautiful beaches, and choosing the best one is an unenviable task. With this in mind, Paradise Beach is the ideal starting point.
Paradise and Super Paradise Beach combine to create a stunning location that is also home to the most fun beach party scene on the Island. In the middle of summer, the beach is flooded with scantily clad men and women bathing under the Aegean sun. As night falls, the party scene soars with music and tropical cocktails at beach clubs like Jackie O’ and the Super Paradise Beach Club.
3. Monastery of Panagia Tourliani
Just a short drive from the heart of Mykonos town, a visit to the monastery of Panagia Tourliani is one of the best things to do in Mykonos, Greece. Like the beaches, there is fierce competition for the most beautiful monasteries and churches on the small island. But you can’t miss Panagia Tourliani.
Almost five centuries old, the monastery is a sight for sore eyes. The clean stone facade with a trio of bells and an adjacent bell tower is an impressive sight. Not to mention the impressive marble fountain with ornate decorations.
