The best things to do in Spain

Spain is such a diverse country that everyone can enjoy it. The main attractions of the country include ancient sites, luxury resorts, long-distance hiking trails and some of the best art museums in the world. Just choose the one that interests you the most and you can enjoy it in at least five different Spanish cities!

1. visits to wine cellars in La Rioja

La Rioja is a province in the North of Spain known for its wine production. The best Spanish wines come from this region and the best wineries offer tours with tastings.

Bodegas Lecea is one of the best for visits, as the wine barrels are stored in underground caves. Bodegas La Rioja Alta, S.A. is also popular for tastings and visits. This winery produces some of the highest quality wines in the country, most of which can be tasted during a visit.

2. hiking on the Way of St. James

The Camino de Santiago is one of the most famous pilgrimage routes in the world. The network of pilgrimage routes extends through the north of Spain, France and Portugal, and all the paths lead to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela.

It is believed that the remains of the Apostle are buried in the Galician Cathedral. The northern city has been the destination of pilgrims since the 10th century, and walking even on a small section of this path is a very enriching experience. At least visit the famous church on a day trip to discover a small part of this Spanish Tradition.

3. climbing the Sagrada Familia Tower

The Sagrada Família is a landmark in Barcelona, known for being constantly under construction. It is estimated that the work on the Church will finally be completed in 2026, more than 140 years after construction began.

The (finished) towers of the Sagrada Familia are open to the public and offer a breathtaking view of the rooftops of Barcelona. And because the cathedral is one of the tallest buildings in the Spanish city, it is one of the best panoramic views that can be seen in Barcelona.

4. participate in the Tomatina

There are two types of people in the world: those who would like to attend the Tomatina and those who would hide in their hotel room until the end of the event. The Buñol Festival has become an icon over the years, attracting many tourists and locals to the streets of the city at the end of August.

The Tomatina is an event where participants throw tomatoes at each other and engage in tomato fights. The main square of Buñol is covered with crushed tomatoes and looks like a scene from a horror movie until the fire trucks water it down.
